Tell us your story.
As I was gearing up to graduate high school in the mid-nineties and head for college the new worldwide web was booming. It was pretty much impossible not to consider a major that at least was a part of the new wave. I chose to pursue Magazine Journalism and through that major really honed in on my passion for the digital world and for graphic design. In order to thrive in any sort of publishing I had to, and still have to, continually evolve my skills and learn more about the ever-changing world of technology. It’s vital to understand what’s out there and what is offered to advance my profession and to enhance what I can offer my clients. Technology is a part of everything and is ever-changing, which makes it an exciting field to pursue.
What do you most want other women and young girls to know about being a woman in our digital culture?
It’s so important to think one step ahead. Never say ‘I just can’t keep up’, rather look at it as an opportunity to always learn something new. Nothing stays static or gets ‘stale.’ We can never be a professional at everything in the digital culture or technology realm but there is always something out there that applies and can enhance your ultimate goal. Whether it’s a blog for a teacher to share her writing or knowledge, or social media to promote an independent catering business, there are endless avenues to pursue in today’s digital culture. Embrace it!
